Clips vs. Permanent

Clip-in vs. Permanent: which Indique product is right for you?

Are you new to extensions? Throughout our exclusive collections, Indique offers many occasional-use and permanent hair extensions. To help you decide what's best for you, we put together this helpful list of terms and techniques.

Hair for Permanent Techniques:
Indique offers hair for two basic permanent techniques—weaving and fusion:

Weaving: A skilled weave artist typically uses pre-wefted hair to perform the installation. For a full head of permanent hair extensions with little or no natural hair showing, the client's hair is first braided into a pattern selected to assist in the creation of the final look. The location of the part and wether any natural hair will be showing is taken into consideration when choosing the braid pattern. The wefted hair is then sewn either directly into the braids, or, depending on the technique of the stylist and preference of the client, a netted cap will be placed over the braids. The wefted hair is sewn into the cap to reduce the amount of contact the thread has with the client's natural hair.

Weaving techniques can also be utilized to add length and fullness to your natural hair, without a full sew-in. Several horizontal braids can be incorporated throughout your existing style as a sewing point for the wefted extensions.

There are two basic types of wefted hair that are typically used for permanent hair extensions:

Machine wefted products refer to extensions which have been sewn or "wefted" to create the bundle of extensions. Loose or "bulk" hair is fed through a triple-head sewing machine to add a reinforced stitch near the top (root) of the individual strands. The hair is then folded over and stitched again to create the final Wefted Hair. Machine Wefted Hair can be found in our PURE, BOUNCE, HYSTERIA and SEA Collections. While mostly used as a technique for permanent hair extensions—typically sewn in, though other methods of securing can be used as well—machine wefted hair is also used as the base to create our line of remy clip in hair extensions in our Studio Collection.

Hand wefted hair: In this case, the individual strands are tied by hand to create the secure weft. This type of wefted hair creates a very strong, but much thinner weft when compared to machine wefted. The end result sits a bit closer to the head, offering less bulk than the machine wefts. Currently, hand wefted hair is only available in our PURE Collection. Hand wefts are typically utilized as permanent hair extensions, although they could also be used to create temporary or clip in hair extensions.

Fusion: Fusion refers to a bonding technique used with individual strand fusion hair extensions. A specialized hot tool is used to soften a prebonded keratin tip to allow it to fuse to a section of the client's hair. Fusion hair extensions are considered permanent hair extensions because of the long lasting result. Fusion bonds are generally removed and reinstalled every 2-3 months. There are two basic types of fusion hair extensions:

The first, and most common, uses nail tip, v-tip or flat tip fusion hair extensions to bond the strand to your hair without the use of any tubes, links, rings or clips

The second, and less common, is a shrinkable tubing technique which utilizes i-tip fusion hair extensions along with a heat-sensitive tube. The i-tip is inserted into the tube along with a strand of your hair. Again using a specialized hot tool, the stylist applies heat to the bonding point which softens the keratin and shrinks the tube, securing the fusion hair extensions to the natural hair.

For shrinkable tubing and direct fusion hair extensions, Indique offers the Keratique Collection. Our pre-bonded strands use 100% natural keratin, not glue, ensuring damage-free fusion hair extensions. Indique offers fusion hair extensions in our Keratique Collection in two types: i-Tip and v-Tip.

Hair for Non-Permanent Techniques:

Clip In Hair Extensions: Not interested in permanent hair extensions? Clip in hair extensions offer the versatility of permanent hair extensions without the commitment. Indique carries a variety of textures and colors in the innovative, quick and easy to apply remy clip in hair extensions in our Studio Collection. Indique offers two different types of remy clip in hair extensions:

  • The Perfect 10: 10 piece sets of clip in hair extensions
  • The Fishnet: The revolution of clip in hair extensions! 9 wefts are interlinked to create one unit, providing you with fullness and length in a snap!

Indique's clip in hair extensions are made from virgin, remy hair. Remy hair refers hair where the cuticle runs in the same direction from root to tip. This allows for much more manageability and styling opportunities than their non-remy counterparts. Non remy hair extensions will typically tangle and matte over time and will need to be replaced often. Indique's clip in hair extensions will last through several years of occasional use following a proper care regimen.
